Poo Poo War!

Before I had my daughter everyone told me that all babies do are eat, sleep and poop. This seemed to be true up until this past week when my daughter stopped pooping. If you recall (I think I blogged about this…….but then who knows I don’t remember much these days {this is a side effect of the sleep deprivation experiment}) I have never been so excited about a poopy diaper before. Poopy diapers = a well fed baby. That is one problem about breast feeding; you can never really tell how much breast milk your baby is getting because your breasts aren’t transparent. (Well, maybe they are on the inside ; ) …..but not on the outside.) When my daughter went one day without pooping I thought perhaps skipping a day was normal. Then 1 day turned into 2 days, then 3 days, and at the 4th day I began to panic! What was wrong? Was she not getting enough to eat? Was she sick? Did she have an intestinal problem? Were her bowels backing up causing her to be full of poop literally?!?!?!?!? I called the doctor and the nurse said for me to give her a glycerin suppository. Those of you who have children know exactly where I am going with this……..
For those of you who don’t know, here is what happened. I gave her the suppository and within 5 minutes I heard a sound that would make an old man who ate beans for dinner blush. Thinking she might not be finished doing her “business” I waited another 5 minutes. Approximately 10 minutes after giving her the suppository I took her into her nursery to change the poopy diaper that I had been waiting for. I removed the now full diaper and bent down to get a clean diaper from underneath the changing table. In this split second I heard another explosion and saw poop flying!!! There must have been some serious force behind this poop because it splattered all over the wall, the bedroom door, the diaper jeanie, the trash can and of course the carpet. The furthest distance was 4 feet 7 inches, no I am not kidding. I was so busy laughing that I nearly forgot to cover up the area before she blew again!
After all that I could tell she felt much better and the 45 minutes I spent cleaning poop from the walls and carpet was worth it. However, I have learned my lesson about glycerin suppository’s….don’t use them unless you are prepared for war!
